Along with feelings of sadness, loss and despair are feelings of anger, betrayal and abandonment. One of the most difficult feelings to acknowledge is relief felt at the end of a crisis ridden life. Survivors whose loved one suffered from severe mental illness and/or previous suicide attempts, endure the tragic elements that caused upheaval within the family and the life of the decedent. When the life of the deceased is defined by difficult behavior and noxious relationships the end brings with it a sense of relief. The survivor is no longer confronted with constant worry about outcome, leaving them with feelings of guilt and self-blame.
